What others are saying about this campground
Spider Rock is a remote, primitive campground located in the heart of the Canyon de Chelly area. It is owned by Howard Smith, a friendly Navajo man, and is situated on the south rim of the canyon. The campground is covered with a layer of fine red dust and has no amenities, but it does have Wi-Fi, potable water, and porta-poties. There are no tall trees for shade, but the sites are tucked among the pinion-pines and junipers, providing a peaceful and secluded atmosphere. The campground is great for dry camping and is perfect for smaller trailers and RVs. Bigger rigs may have some difficulty maneuvering the roads to the better sites. There is a one mile hike to the canyons edge, as well as a rim hike on the property that is absolutely breathtaking. The resident camp host is friendly and helpful, and there are two friendly camp dogs. This is a great spot for those looking for a more authentic camping experience, as the facilities are basic and the scenery is spectacular.
