What others are saying about this campground
Potato Patch Campground is a great spot for those looking to escape the heat of Phoenix without traveling too far. Located just north of Jerome on Mingus Mountain, the campground offers 28 sites (A-Loop, no hookups) at an elevation of 7,000 feet, surrounded by Ponderosa Pines. Each site has a fire pit, picnic table and a grill, and is big enough for large groups of about 5-7 cars. During the day, you may encounter cattle running around, and coyotes at night. Several hiking trails are reasonably close, and there is a small fishing lake 2 miles away. The campground is extremely clean, with composting toilets that generate no bad smell. The main road goes through the north end of camp, so you may hear street bikes, Harley’s and wannabe mountain racers throughout the night. The camp sites are a little too compact and close together for the price, but they offer plenty of shade and trees to shield the table. There are no electric hookups, but you can bring a generator. Its only 20 minutes down the highway to Jerome, a unique town built right into the mountain. The road up to Potato Patch has many 6% grades and tight mountain curves, so be aware when driving. The campground is ideal for those looking for a peaceful and quiet stay, but occasionally you may find remains from the bad camper.
