This campground is located in the desert at Gila Bend, an Air Force auxiliary field maintained by contractors. It is a quiet, peaceful place and popular with snow birds in the winter. Each site has water, electricity, and sewer, with a reverse osmosis system for drinking water. The staff at the lodge is friendly and helpful. There are trails around the fam-camp, and a communal fire ring located at one end of the loop. The sites are large and clean, and the laundry is free. There is no nearby grocery store, Lowes, or Walmart, but Gila Bend does have gas stations, Dollar General, Burger King, and Mexican restaurants. The water is not drinkable, but there is a reverse osmosis filter that you can use to get your drinking water. There is a low level of arsenic in the water, so it is recommended that you bring your own water jug to fill up with the reverse osmosis system. The nearest big box stores are about 45 minutes to one hour away, and the hotspot from phones is good for Verizon. It is a great place to stay for a short time, and it is very inexpensive.

Arizona Military Campgrounds & RV Parks is a collection of six campgrounds located throughout Arizona, including Fort Huachuca - Apache Flats Campground, Yuma Proving Ground - Desert Breeze Travel Camp, Davis-Monthan AFB - FAM Camp, Luke AFB - Ft. Tuthill Recreation Area, Gila Bend FAM Camp, and MCAS Yuma - Martinez Lake Recreation Area. These campgrounds are open to active duty military, retirees, and DOD civilians, and offer a variety of amenities such as RV sites with hook-ups, tent camping, cabins, and mobile homes. Some campgrounds also offer A-frames and hotels. Activities available at these campgrounds include outdoor recreation, sports and fitness, arts and crafts, and entertainment. Discounts may be available for Golden Age Passport holders.
