What others are saying about this campground
Patagonia Lake Campground is a peaceful and well maintained campground located close to Tucson, Arizona. It offers plenty of RV parking and boat-in sites for those who prefer more privacy. The lake is the main attraction, with fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities. There is a beach, bridge, and marina for visitors to enjoy, and a nature center and gift shop for those looking to learn more about the area. The visitor center is great for families, with lots of activities for kids, and a junior ranger program. The Lakeside Market offers basic supplies and junk food. The park also has a swimming beach, fishing piers, walking trails, and a pretty cool bridge over the river/lake. The facilities are nice, clean, and well-lit, and access roads are paved and wide. There is a small marina in a pretty cove with a cool arched footbridge over the channel. There are also primitive cabins with a great view, water and electric, and an on site dump station. The park is great for birders, with plenty of birds to observe both in the park and in the nearby Patton house. The park is also in the monsoon season, so the rains have made the grasses (weeds) grow vigorously. However, the park staff is trying their best to keep up with it. There is a lot of day use foot traffic through the campground, and some free range cattle in the area. Be aware that a strong Pit Bull may be jumping on you while swimming in such close proximity amongst the crowd. The camp sites are sparse (table & fire pit) but not too tightly packed. The voltage can drop low enough in the summer that the electrical management system shuts down the power. There is no signage to direct you to your site if you arrive after dark, and some sites are more level than others. The park does not accept reservations, so its best to arrive early if you want to ensure getting a good site. The winter volunteers are a welcoming and knowledgeable group that make the camping experience pleasant. Patagonia Lake is a great place to escape the heat and enjoy the outdoors.
