What others are saying
This campground has very crowded sites with dirt and dust, and millions of flies due to the proximity of horses. However, the indoor swimming pool is clean and the dressing rooms are fair. The reviewers would not camp there again due to the small spaces and flies. On the other hand, there is a restroom facility, playground, disc golf, picnic shelter, and benches. The spacious sites have plenty of shade from the oaks. It is a great staging ground for hikes in the area and for hooking up with the PCT. Additionally, there is a gas station converted to a bar with a taco truck nearby.

From The Campground

Tonto National Forest Campground offers 75 campsites, 25 of which are first come, first serve, and the remaining 50 are reservable. The campground has 18 sites in the Mule Deer Loop and 12 sites in the Mountain Lion Loop. The campground is open from February to November and offers horse camping and riding. There are flush toilets available, but the showers and dump station are closed. Campfire rings are available, and firewood can be purchased on-site for $7. RV camping is allowed, but there are no hookups. Horses are only allowed on campground roads, no forest access.
