Houston Mesa Campground is a quiet, spacious campground located just a couple of miles from Payson, Arizona. It offers a variety of well-separated sites with asphalt driveways and interior roads, as well as Ponderosa Pines and dense undergrowth. Although the roads and sites are paved, many of the pull-through sites have bends that would be difficult or impossible for larger rigs to level. There is a considerable amount of road noise from State Highway 87 and Houston Mesa Road, and visitors must purchase passes from area stores in Mesa. Verizon air card worked due to close proximity to town. There is a $7.00 dump fee, but water is free. The campground is kept neat and clean by the hosts, and visitors towing in vehicles will not be charged an additional fee. This is a great campground for weekenders, but full-timers may not find it as appealing.
