What others are saying about this campground
Riggs Flat Campground is a beautiful campground located in the Pinaleño Mountains 40 miles southwest of Safford, AZ. It is the perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a scenic drive and a base camp for activities such as hiking, mountain biking, birding, caving and swimming. The lake is stocked with trout and bass, and boats powered by electric trolling motors are permitted. RV’s up to 22 and vehicles with trailers less than 21 are recommended, but longer vehicles may have difficulty negotiating the switchbacks on the road up the mountain (AZ 366). There are no services or first Aid, the nearest would have to be Mt. Graham Community Hospital in Safford, 42 miles away. The campground is equipped with picnic tables, fire pits, and large campsites with great views of the lake. The bathrooms are the cleanest vault toilets and the camp host, Troy, is a friendly guy who is happy to chat or give hiking suggestions. The lake is easily accessible and great for fishing, especially for beginners and kids. The road up is unpaved and rough, so 4 wheel drive is recommended. There is a lot of dispersed camping in the way up the mountain and the area is known for its amazing diversity from the surrounding desert. Be aware of the weather and that the mountains attract more rain, and also of the skunks in the area. Finally, do not use the online reservation system as it is known to scam people.
