What others are saying
McHood Park is a great place to stay for a few nights while passing through or even for a longer stay. Located 8 miles off the interstate, the park offers 22 sites, including 4 large pull-thrus in the upper/center section and some smaller sites down along the lake. The views are nice, and the skies are dark at night. There is a kiosk at the entrance to the park where you pay $15/night for a dashboard ticket. The roads are easy to navigate, and Verizon signal is very good here. Beware, there are loads of goat head stickers everywhere around this campground, so be careful if you have pets or young children, and be sure to check your shoes/boots for burrs when going inside your RV! There is no water, electrical, or sewer dumps available anywhere in this park. Some day use people come to fish (which is reportedly very good) and kayak in Clear Creek. There is a dumpster available and the restrooms are closed for the winter. Close to Winslow and its historic downtown, there are a few very good restaurants. Be aware that some people abuse the privilege by having barking dogs, using multiple sites, burying dead dogs near the campsites, and overstaying the 14 day limit. Sometimes local teens come to hang out and cruise in the day-use area.
