Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area, located in Bakersfield, CA, is a beautiful campground set on a picturesque lake. The area is mostly flat with a scattering of trees and views of the lake. All of the sites are big pull-through, widely spaced ones, and the waterfront hookup sites are the best. In the middle of each patio is a round cement slab with a table and fire ring. The campground is full of prairie dogs (or similar) that are fun to watch. The restrooms are basic but convenient and big trash barrels are located throughout the loops. Overall, the park is scenic and has great potential with just a little more care for amenities like litter pick-up and perhaps some ground squirrel remediation. The pull-through sites with full hookups and the lakeside setting make this a favorite spot for many campers.

From The Campground

Buena Vista is a man-made site located approximately 25 miles southwest of Bakersfield. When the site was completed in April 1973, it took 43 days to fill both Lake Evans and the much larger Lake Webb with over 2,300,000,000 gallons (or 6,800 acre feet) of water. The campground offers 112 campsites in a double row, fishing, boating, jet-skiing, bicycling, basketball court, soccer field, children's play equipment, and several covered picnic areas reserved for large groups or small groups.
