What others are saying about this campground
This campground is the perfect spot for a secluded getaway in the heart of Big Sur. Nestled in a redwood forest along Route 1, the campground offers stunning views of the rocky coastline and majestic mountains. With plenty of tent sites and room for multiple campers, its the perfect spot for large groups. The nearby trails offer a great opportunity to explore the area and take in the beautiful scenery. Be sure to plan ahead and pack in what you need, as the stores along Route 1 can be expensive. Traffic can be thick on holidays and weekends, so try to avoid driving during those times. The campground is usually booked 6-8 months in advance, so be sure to make your reservations early. There are full bathrooms and trash receptacles, but the showers are ran by token system purchased at the lodge. Be aware of the poison oak in the area and keep your food stored properly to avoid any raccoons or small critters. Sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking and the stars at night are bright and beautiful. Enjoy the serenity of this campground and all the beauty Big Sur has to offer.

From The Campground
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is named after Julia Pfeiffer Burns, a well-respected pioneer woman in the Big Sur country. The park stretches from the Big Sur coastline into nearby 3,000-foot ridges. It features redwood, tan oak, madrone, chaparral, and an 80-foot waterfall that drops from granite cliffs into the ocean waters of Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, environmental campsites, picnic areas, exhibits and programs, interpretive exhibits, and nature and wildlife viewing. Dogs are not allowed beyond the day-use parking lot. The park is open from 8am to sunset.
