GenieSummary

This campground is located in the Mojave Desert, just a 3 hour drive from many homes. Its pet friendly, and the open space is great for dogs, but be sure to keep them on a leash as it can be dangerous. The land is quite bare, so be sure to bring your own shade if you plan on camping overnight. The Rock formations are stunning, and the views of the canyon are reminiscent of Arizona or Utah. There are plenty of trails for hiking, photography, star gazing, climbing and off roading. The campsites are spread out and nicely tucked against the rocks for a more private feel. There is a visitor center with Wi-Fi and a small museum, as well as fire pits, BBQs, restrooms, and designated dumpster areas. The campground is complete with a seasonal visitors center (with firewood), a general picnic area, restrooms, designated dumpster areas and developed campsites with fire pits. This is a great place for OHV enthusiasts, and the rates are quite reasonable. Be sure to bring a warm sleeping bag for fall nights, and plenty of water and shade for the hot summer months. You may also encounter snakes and scorpions in the spring to fall months, so use caution while hiking day or night.

From The Campground

Red Rock Canyon State Park is a scenic park located 25 miles northeast of Mojave on Highway 14, near Cantil. The park is known for its colorful badlands, cliffs, and canyons, which provide a backdrop for movies. Paleontologists have been combing through the layers of rock in the park for almost a century, making important discoveries about the history of mammalian life in the area. The park offers first-come, first-served camping, guided nature hikes, and campfire programs during the fall and spring. Dogs are allowed on a leash and must be accompanied by a person at all times. Firearms, shooting, and hunting are not permitted in the park. Commercial, student, non-profit, feature news, and documentary filming and photography projects require a permit. Scattering ashes requires a permit from the Great Basin District office. The park is temporarily closed to vehicle entry until further notice due to significant public safety and natural resource issues.
