GenieSummary

This campground is a great place to explore the beauty of the Redwood Trees and the rugged California coastline. It is nestled amongst the trees and provides lots of shade, however, the sites are close together and there is limited privacy. There is road noise due to its proximity to Highway 36, but it is a low volume road. There are flush potties, fire pits, and wood for sale at the office. There is also a nice swimming hole and hiking trails within walking distance of the campground. It is a great place for families with young children, however, it is not suited for most RVs and travel trailers. It is also not a good place for dogs, as there are very few areas they are allowed other than your camp site. There is no cell service, so it is a great place to disconnect from technology.

From The Campground

Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park is a small park located 20 miles southeast of Eureka on HWY 101, then 17 miles east of HWY 36. The park is less than one square mile, with only five miles of trails, but it offers a sublime redwood forest full of big trees and few people. Families prize Grizzly Creek's rustic amenities. In summer, kids can ride their bikes around a paved campground loop with only 28 sites, some bordering the Van Duzen River. Visitors can have close and safe encounters with park wildlife, including bears, mountain lions, moles, and steelhead trout, via a taxidermy and skeleton display at the visitor center. On weekends, campers can gather for campfire programs, one of the few old-fashioned park experiences left.
