What others are saying about this campground
South Carlsbad State Beach is a stunning campground set on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Its a great spot for families, with pay showers, flush toilets, and a camp store with all the essentials. Each campsite has a large iron fire pit and picnic table, and some even have hook-ups for RVs. The beach is just a few steps away, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy like whale watching, kayaking, surfing, fishing, and paddle boarding. The campground is close to many attractions like La Jolla, Del Mar horse racing track, Carlsbad flower fields, Windmill, and Oceanside pier. The sites on the west side overlook the cliffs, but there is an ugly chainlink fence that blocks the view. The campground is often busy, so its best to book in advance, and the gates are closed at night. There are water spigots throughout the campground, but they are just faucets, not proper RV connections. The park ranger enforces quiet time rules, and the campground is close to shopping and other amenities.

From The Campground
South Carlsbad State Beach extends from Palomar Airport Road to La Costa Ave. Unlike Carlsbad State Beach to the north, this beach has few amenities, except for the campgrounds, and is rather remote. Popular activities include swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing and picnicking, and sunbathing. Good quality sand makes this beach ideal for walking and jogging.
