Doheny State Beach is a large park with 122 sites between the ocean and a street with railroad tracks. There are no hookups and prices vary from $40-$60. The campsites are relatively close to each other, but it was generally quiet during the visit. Although many of the campsites were under water when the reviewer went, the location of all sites is within walking distance to the beach. The bathrooms were relatively clean, and the showers required tokens. It should be noted that shower tokens must be obtained with quarters, and there is no soap provided in the restrooms. Although the cost of the park is high, there are good day-use facilities, including toy rentals and beach volleyball. The park also is within walking distance to the town where there are many shops and coffee shops. During low tide, it is possible to walk to town along the beach. Doheny State Beach is a good spot for a first camping trip and overall, the reviewer would camp there again.

Doheny State Beach is one of California's most popular state beaches, attracting almost one million visitors per year. The beach has a day use surfing beach at its northern end and a five-acre lawn with picnic facilities and volleyball courts. The southern end of the state beach has campgrounds, with some of the campsites only steps away from the beach. The state beach has tide pools and a visitor center with several aquariums. Surf fishing is also popular among visitors.
