From The Campground

Reef Campground is located within Fort Ross State Historic Park, which is situated at the active continental margin, where the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate are moving slowly past each other along the San Andreas Fault. The campground is closed for camping, but the park offers day use for a fee. Visitors can explore the historical structures from the Russian period, including the Rotchev house, the first Russian Orthodox chapel south of Alaska, the stockade, the Kuskov House, the Officials Barracks, the Magazin (Fur Warehouse), and two corner blockhouses. There is also a replica of one of the Russian windmills on the park grounds. The park was a working ranch during the ranch era, and visitors can see relics of this period such as the Call House, built in 1878.
