What others are saying about this campground
Van Damme Campground is a beautiful, secluded spot located in the redwoods near Mendocino, California. It offers a variety of camping sites, including family sites, group sites, and hike-in sites. Each site comes with a fire ring, a large group grill, food storage boxes, and tables. The campground is close to the beach and across the highway from Fort Bragg. It is also close to Mendocino, where visitors can find shopping and dining options. The campground is popular, so visitors should plan ahead and make reservations early. Cell service is poor, so visitors should come prepared. Dogs are not allowed on some trails, but are allowed on the beach. The park needs maintenance, but due to Californias budget issues, funds are limited.

From The Campground
Van Damme State Park is a beautiful park located in California. It offers more than 65 drive-in campsites, 9 hike-in sites, and a 1930s-era visitor center. The park is a great place for hiking, biking, birding, jogging, kayaking, botanizing, and watching salmon spawn. Its trails include a 0.25 mile-long wheelchair-accessible boardwalk to view stunted trees in a pygmy forest. The park also offers summer interpretive activities for kids, including hikes, campfire programs, and junior-ranger programs. Van Damme Beach is popular with kayakers, and in the summer, kayak tours exploring the tide pools and sea caves nearby are offered through a concessionaire at the Van Damme Beach parking lot.
