GenieSummary

Fossil Falls is a unique and beautiful campground located in Southern California, just off of Route 395. The campground is run by the BLM and offers single campsites with fire pits, picnic tables, and vault toilets. The campground is great for rock climbing in the morning, as the face of the sun can get quite hot. There is also good hiking in the area and close access to Red Hill off the highway. The campground is also great for star gazing and watching the sunset and sunrise. The roads to the campground are unpaved and can be a bit rocky, so take care when driving. It is not suitable for large RVs, but small RVs, tents, and vans are welcome. The campground does not have any hookups, but there is a water source and pit toilets. There is also a payment kiosk near the parking lot.

From The Campground

Fossil Falls Campground is located in along California Highway 395 at the base of the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. The campground contains 11 first-come-first-serve campsites with drinking water, restroom, tables and fire rings. RV sites are available and well suited for medium-sized RVs. The fee is $6.00 per night and the stay limit is 14 days. Fossil Falls offers a unique volcanic landscape. The short Fossil Falls Trail will lead you though the smooth, polished remnants of a 20,000 year-old lava flow and is an excellent location to stretch your legs on a long road trip. The flow itself is a popular destination for rappelers and rock climbers.
