GenieSummary

Salton Sea State Recreation Area offers a refreshing escape from the desert heat and dryness. The park offers a serene atmosphere, allowing visitors to unwind and relax. The New Campground has nice amenities and beautiful views of the Sea, the mountains, and the sunset. There are many spots available for tent camping, with trees providing shade, and hammocks swinging under the Ramadas. The east side of the camp has a nature loop that offers a perfect place for a morning stroll to catch the sunrise. Visitors can also check out the Sonny Bono Bird Sanctuary on the East end of the Sea. The park staff recommends exploring this beautiful area while enjoying the migratory birds and bats at sunset. Showers are available, but tokens are required to use them. The office is open from Thursday to Sunday from 9 to 4. Although there are often distant train noises, the park is generally quiet and not crowded.

From The Campground

Salton Sea State Recreation Area covers 14 miles of the northeastern shore of the Salton Sea, one of the world's largest inland seas and lowest spots on earth at -227 below sea level. The park offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including camping, boating, fishing, hiking, and birdwatching. The increasing salinity in the Salton Sea basin has limited the number of types of fish that can be found there, and most fish currently caught are Tilapia. Varner Harbor within the SRA provides easy access to the sea for boating and water skiing. The park is open year-round, and the day use and campground are open all day and all night.
