Lake Spaulding is a beautiful campground located in Nevada County, California. The campground is situated at an elevation of 5,014 feet in a glacier carved bowl of granite, and has a surface area of 698 acres surrounded by giant rocks and a thick pine forest. Originally built for hydraulic mining in 1912, the lake is now a popular destination for campers and boaters. All types of boating are allowed on the lake, and fishing from the boat and the shore can be very rewarding. The campground offers 25 developed sites for tents and RVs, and fees can be obtained by calling the campground. Boating is also allowed, with power, row, jet ski, windsurf, canoe, sail, water-ski, and inflatables all permitted. The launch ramp fee is $3.00 and is only available for summer use. Other recreational activities include fishing for brown and rainbow trout, swimming, picnicking, hiking, and backpacking.
