Coast Camp is the perfect destination for those looking for a picturesque and secluded getaway. Located in West Marin, just a short hike away from the beach, the campground offers stunning views of creeks, coast, forest and wildlife. The night sky is ideal for star gazing, and the campground is protected from the wind and ocean by a hill. The campsites are spread out in a scrub-brush area, providing a nice amount of privacy and protection from the wind, although there is no privacy between campsites. There are plenty of short and long hikes to explore, and campers can also bike to the campground via a strenuous 6.7 mile ride along the Stewart Trail. Each campsite is equipped with charcoal grills, picnic tables, bear boxes/food storage lockers, and some sites have a little privacy due to the high grass. Campfires are only allowed on the beach with a permit from the Visitor Center. Be aware of small vermin that may be looking to snag any food you’ve left out. The best campsites are 6 and 7, which provide a little more seclusion. Enjoy the beauty of the area and the feeling of being far away from the hustle and bustle, even though the lights of San Francisco are almost visible on the horizon.
From The Campground
Point Reyes National Seashore offers four hike-in or bike-in only campgrounds: Coast, Sky, Wildcat, and Glen. There is also a boat-in only campground at Tomales Bay. The park does not offer car camping or RV camping. Visitors can make reservations for backcountry camping through Recreation.gov. The park also offers overnight kayaking and boating on Tomales Bay.
