Pendleton Campground is a beautiful campground located just south of San Clemente on the east side of I-5. It offers 68 full hookup sites with 30amp service and water, as well as paved roads and sites with wooden posts around the trailer pads. The campground is within a short drive to the beach, and there is a walking/biking path or Christianitos Road for easy access. There is a campfire gathering area with programs in the summer, and community fresh water spigots located every few spaces. The sites are mostly very spacious and private, with lawns, trees and shrubs, ample picnic tables and fire pits. Unfortunately, the campground is close to a firing range and Camp Pendleton, so there is often gunfire or bombing practice echoing through the camp. There is also no sewer hookups, and the showers cost fifty cents for two minutes with no hand-soap in the restrooms. Despite these drawbacks, Pendleton Campground is a great alternative for those who cant get near the beach for camping and offers a peaceful, secure environment.

San Onofre State Beach is a popular destination for surfers, located 3 miles south of the city of San Clemente on Interstate 5 at Basilone Road. The beach is divided into three breaks spots known as “The Point,” “Old Man’s,” and “Dogpatch.” All perform best on a south swell, though the beach takes any surf and slows it down to a very slow pace. The entire area is covered by a rock reef, often making walking into or out of the water difficult. The San Mateo Campground is located on the outer edge of San Clemente; 1 mile inland from I-5 (Exit Cristianitos). Camping is available on the bluffs with cold showers and 'flush' pit toilets nearby. The campground is equipped with an Automated RV Dump Fee Collection System by Sani-Star, LLC. Camp trailer rentals are available through LUV-2-CAMP, LLC and The Holidays Delivered.
