GenieSummary

This campground is a great spot for a relaxing weekend getaway. It is located in the Los Padres National Forest and is managed by a third party, not the USFS. It is a clean and quiet site with lots of shade provided by huge oak trees. Each site has a table, bbq, and fire pit. The site is near many trails and about 6 miles from the red rock day use area. There are clean bathrooms, good flat camping spots for your tent, a good group area, conveniently located water, and great hiking trails with some awesome views of the hills. Depending on the time of the year you go, there may or may not be a flow in the river. You can make reservations online but there is a 10.00 charge to do so. The campsites are close together, but there is ample distance from other sites which gives some privacy. The upper equestrian sites are closed off due to the access road being washed out. There is a lot of wildlife in the area, including turkeys, toads, and birds. The soothing sound of the flowing creek and the hooting of an owl make for a peaceful night. It is also close to Lake Cachuma and the popular Cold Springs Tavern. The only downside is that there are a lot of flies, wasps, and spiders, and it can be a bit noisy if you are a light sleeper. However, the host does provide a bundle of wood if you forget to bring it.
