From The Campground

American Canyon Seasonal Campground is located in Los Padres National Forest and is only open for a short time during A Zone deer hunting season. It is closed the rest of the year. The campground is situated among oaks and chaparral vegetation and offers 14 first-come, first-serve campsites for recreational vehicles or trailers no longer than 25 feet. The campground has vault restrooms and no water. The Adventure Pass ($5/day or $30/year), or Annual Interagency Pass, Senior Interagency Pass, or Interagency Access Pass are required for camping. The campground is a trailhead to Machesna Mountain Wilderness and offers hunting and horseback riding activities. Dogs must be kept on a leash and wear a collar with current tags at all times. Fire restrictions may apply, and visitors are advised to contact the Santa Lucia Ranger District for current information.
