From The Campground
Granite Flat Campground is located on the banks of the Truckee River and adjacent to Highway 89 South, three miles south of Truckee and a short distance from Tahoe City. The campground offers 70 single-family sites, some of which are accessible. Sites range from shaded by large trees to very open. Several sites overlook the Truckee River, while other sites are adjacent to Highway 89. All sites are a short walking distance to the river. Seven sites are designated for tent-camping only. These sites are a short walk-in and adjacent to Highway 89. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring, grill and bear box for storage of food, pet food and other scented items. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Roads within campground are paved. Highway 89 road noise can be heard. Visitors enjoy the area for its bike riding and hiking opportunities, as well as its proximity to Lake Tahoe and Olympic Valley. A paved trail starts just a few miles south of the campground at the entrance to Olympic Valley. Walkers, skaters, and bike riders can follow the paved trail to Tahoe City and beyond as it parallels the Truckee River, or head west into Olympic Valley for food and entertainment. Campers also enjoy swimming and tubing on the river. Rafting opportunities may be available in the summertime in Tahoe City. Fly-fishing on the Truckee River is also a popular activity. Special restrictions apply. Firewood can be purchased on sight. No camping or campfires allowed outside of developed campgrounds.
