Oak Grove Campground is a great oasis in the middle of the desert, providing tons of shade over the spacious sites. Its a good staging ground for hikes in the area like Eagle Rock or the backside of Palomar Mountain, and you can also hook up with the PCT. Nearby Garage 79 is a sweet gas station converted to a bar with a killer taco truck. The campground is a quick and easy drive to escape for the weekend. The grassy sites are level, although some areas can be overgrown. Basic USFS campground, nicely priced at $15/night ($30 for double sites), with a $5 day use fee. There are mix of flushable and vaulted toilets, water spigots, and picnic tables and fire pits available. About half the spots have trees for shade and privacy. The non-reservable sites were all available but its advisable to check with the host due to many sites already having a reserved tag. The campground itself is okay, but can be boring, and is close to the road providing easy access and is nice and cheap for a place to stop for the night. One downside is the flies can be overwhelming and can make being outside less enjoyable. Lastly, while there is a host, they may not always be able to help with the noise level, so its always best to bring earplugs.

Oak Grove Campground is located in Cleveland National Forest and offers 64 sites including 11 double sites. The campground has potable water, flush toilets, and a vault toilet. The campground is open year-round and reservations can be made online or by phone. The campground is restricted to vehicles 32 ft. max. and offers light usage. The campground is operated by the Forest Service.
