This campground is the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. Located on the gorgeous Taylor River, its only 20 minutes south of Crested Butte and sits right on the mountain bike trailhead for Doctors Park. There are 15 sites, a quarter of which are creekside and have flat spots for tents. The other sites are at the base of beautiful red rock cliffs with neighbors surrounding them. There are plenty of trees for hammocks and fire pits and tables for each site. There is no bear box, but there is a park ranger nearby. There is a mix of tent and small RV sites and the camp host is friendly. There are also huge rocks to climb and boulder on, and the 23 mile Doctors Park bike trail is a fun trail to hike or trail run. The bathrooms are not great, but the views and the peace and quiet more than make up for it.
From The Campground
North Bank Campground is located in Gunnison RD and is a great spot for fishing in the Taylor River. The Doctor Park Trailhead is located next to the campground. Doctor Park Trail is open to hikers, horses and mountain bikers. Four-wheel drive enthusiasts will enjoy the close proximity to Beaver Creek Road and Five mile Road. The campground has 17 campsites and potable hand-pump water. Vault toilets are available. Campers are required to store food and other items in a hard sided vehicle or camping unit constructed of solid non-pliable material.
