From The Campground
Vallecito Campground is a large and popular campground located next to the Weminuche Wilderness in San Juan National Forest. The campground has 80 shaded campsites in four loops, with most sites being large and fairly level. Services include water, trash pickup, fire grates, picnic tables, and pit toilets. Bear-safe food storage is recommended. The campground provides limited services from late September through October. Seven fee picnic sites are along the creek. Parking for the Vallecito Creek Trail, a major access point for the Weminuche Wilderness, is at the campground entrance. Hitching posts and an unloading dock are available for livestock at the trailhead, but overnight horse camping is not allowed.
