GenieSummary
Collegiate Peaks Campground is a heavily aspen wooded area located just outside of Buena Vista. The sites are rustic and not well maintained, but provide a beautiful, dense forest setting. The bathrooms are clean but have a distinct odor. There is only one dumpster located at the front of the campground, making it difficult to load up trash at night. Visitors have reported seeing people roaming around the trailers at night. The sites are evenly spaced and have access to a creek with some sites located right along the water. Be aware that there are lots of flies and mosquitoes in the area. The ranger is friendly and will inform you of the two baited bear traps located in the campground. The drive up to Cottonwood Pass is beautiful, and the campground is quiet and peaceful. There are fire pits, picnic tables, restrooms, and water available on site. The campground is popular during the summer and can get congested, but there are enough trees in between sites for some privacy. Some sites are large and sloped down to the creek, and the scenery is breathtaking. There are also trails in the area and easy access to Buena Vista. Be aware that some sites can be tight for two cars and there is no outhouse service.
