Ward Lake Campground is a great spot for tent campers, located on top of the Mesa in Colorado. It is accessible from a paved highway, and all but two of the sites are shaded, making it a great spot for camping in the warmer months. The campground is small, tight, and best for tenters and smaller TTs and RVs. There are vault toilets, water spigots, and dumpsters. There are also several hiking trails, including a short one over to the Forest Service Visitor Center on the other side of the lake. Fishing is allowed and there are plenty of trout in the lake. The campground is relatively quiet, except for the regional manager who lives there and generates a lot of traffic. Unfortunately, the Visitor Center is currently closed due to the Corona virus.
