GenieSummary
This campground is the perfect spot for a family camping experience. Located on the North Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the campground offers stunning views of the canyon and plenty of trout fishing. Sites are spaced out nicely with picnic tables, fire rings, and BearSaver boxes. The campground also offers vault toilets and potable water in the center of the camping loop. There is a short hike to the visitor center and around down a little ways into the canyon, and a wilderness permit is required to go further. The campground is conveniently located close to town and in the center of the park, and the park entry fee is waived in mid-July. The campground is a great spot for stargazing, and the amphitheater across the street offers ranger talks every night. Be aware of the yellow jackets during drought years, and remember to conserve water since it is a limited resource.
From The Campground
The North Rim campground is remote and has 13 sites dispersed among pinyon and juniper trees. Sites available on a first-come, first-served basis. The last 7 miles of the North Rim Road and the campground road are unpaved. Services are very limited. To protect vegetation and forest resources, please use designated tent pads and do not tie, hang, or attach anything to trees. This campground fills quickly during the summer, especially on weekends. Maximum combined length of RV, car and/or trailer is 22 feet.
