What others are saying
Durango United Campground is a well-maintained park on the Animas River, located just 10 minutes from the Durango Old Town area and 45 minutes from Mesa Verde. The park features lush green grass and shade trees, making it an ideal spot for group camping. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they run a water truck over the roads daily to keep down the dust. The famous narrow-gauge railroad runs through the facility, entertaining campers with authentic steam trains during the day. The campground is equipped with utilities, a laundry facility, and a trolley that stops at the entrance of the park every 20 minutes and takes passengers to downtown Durango for a dollar. The sites are gravel, mostly level, and close together, but there is plenty of room to park your vehicle. The Silverton-Durango narrow gauge steam train passes through the park four times a day, and campers can line up with lawn chairs to wave at the open air train. There is also a fenced area for dogs, as they are not allowed to go past the railroad tracks. The biggest downside of the campground is the goat head stickers that can be found around the sites.
