What others are saying about this campground
Golden Gate Canyon State Park is a rustic campground situated among tall pines and offering lots of walking areas. It is conveniently located near Golden, Denver, and Idaho Springs, making it a great base for exploring the area. The campground is small and not very level, making it more suitable for pull trailers than motorhomes. There is no sewer, but there is a dump station with a fee of $23. Electric and water hookups are available, but they are on the wrong side, so campers must run the wire and hose under the coach to the middle of the camping area. The campground is noisy due to traffic from the highway, but this can be helpful for drowning out other noises. There are also reports of partyers, hypothermic needles on the ground, and air wreaking of pot at all hours. There is a friendly work-camper host who can help with backing in, and a hiking trail.

From The Campground
Chief Hosa campground opened in 1918 as “America’s first motor-camping area.” The campground spans 58 acres within the 2,400 acres of Denver’s Genesee Mountain Park, which is home to a city-owned bison herd and provides a unique opportunity to view these animals in a natural habitat. The nearby historic Chief Hosa Lodge is available for event rentals.
