Winding River Resort, located near Grand Lake, is an ideal spot for camping enthusiasts. The proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park is unparalleled, and the staff, restrooms, and grounds are all excellent. The resort offers a variety of camping options, with water and electric sites being a particular highlight. However, some areas of the resort can prove underwhelming; Meadow View Village sites are wide open and too closely situated, and the 50 amp sites lack concrete slabs and can be muddy and mosquito-infested. On the plus side, the front office is impressive and offers great gifts and supplies. Processing the check-in, particularly, is simple and straightforward, and campers are escorted to their site. While potential exists for Winding River Resort to be a beautiful park, some areas need improvements, and the experience of parking in a muddy field can be underwhelming.
