This campground near Leadville, Colorado has an old growth forest setting with amazing views of the highest mountain in the state. While it offers full hook-ups, pull-through sites, and close access to local lakes, the interior roads and sites are gravel and dirt and the park is in need of some improvement. The staff is friendly and helpful, and there is a free ice cream social and large off-leash pet area. The park also provides clean bathrooms and laundry facilities, however WiFi is not available and the dumpsters were overflowing with trash. The sites are tight and the views are obstructed by close-by motorhomes and travel trailers. There are also many hazards like gopher holes and tall grass and weeds. Overall, this campground has some nice features but could use some upgrades.

Sugar Loafin Campground is a family-owned and operated campground located in Leadville, Colorado. The campground offers great camping at 10,000 feet and is surrounded by lake and stream trout fishing, rock hounding, pine-scented forests, jeep trails, clean air, hiking, boating, mountain climbing, blue skies, cool breezes blowing off snow-capped mountain peaks, and the nation’s highest golf course. Sugar Loafin Campground offers full hookup RV sites, level, grassy tent sites, and cabins. Restrooms and shower facilities are warm, fully lighted, comfortable, and sparkling clean. The campground also features a store, gold panning, a family recreation room with a fireplace, a playground, and nightly ice cream socials.
