What others are saying
Hayden State Park is a great spot for a base camp for exploring the Steamboat Springs area. It is conveniently located off of Highway 40 and has minimal services, so be sure to stop in Craig or Steamboat for supplies. The campground is well-maintained, with flush toilets, showers (coin operated), washing and drying machines, and a bike path. Each site is spacious and has a picnic table with a wind shelter, a fire pit, and an area for a tent. The park also has a trail around the perimeter, great for walking your dogs, and a Junior Ranger booklet. Unfortunately, there is little to no shade and the campground is right off the highway, making it noisy at times. There is also a barbed wire fence between you and the Yampa River, so access to the river is limited. However, the campground is clean and the staff are friendly and accommodating. Verizon cell service is good and there are multiple spigots to fill up your water tank. If youre looking for a peaceful spot for an overnight stay or a base camp for exploring the area, Hayden State Park is a great choice.

From The Campground

Duffy Mountain Campground is located approximately 29 miles west of Craig, Colorado. The campground offers primitive camping and day-use picnic sites with tables and fire rings. The area has restroom facilities, a boat ramp, and trash receptacles. The campground is situated along the Yampa River, which offers great opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing. Elk, antelope, and mule deer are abundant in the area. The campground is also a great base camp for hunters and OHV users who want to access public lands. Boaters need to be cautious of a class III-IV diversion dam downstream. A great wave train lines up below: Don't miss the surf wave below the flume. After that, it is a nice mellow float out. A portage or scout above the diversion on the right is suggested.
