What others are saying about this campground
Overall, this is a great campground for taking in the beauty of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The sites are small but private, and the views of the canyon are breathtaking. The campground is conveniently located near the Visitor Center and is a great spot for star-gazing, with a volunteer astronomer providing nightly telescope viewing. The campground is also close to several trails, including one that is dog-friendly. There is no dump station or water available to fill tanks, and the road to the campground is steep, so be sure to come prepared. Be aware that the campground host, Mark, is aggressive, rude and unprofessional, so it is best to avoid interaction with him.

From The Campground
The South Rim Campground is located one mile from the South Rim Visitor Center. Reservations may be made on recreation.gov for mid-May to mid-October, and it is first-come first-served after that. Sites are fairly close together, and are partially shaded by Gambel oak and serviceberry bushes. Only Loop B offers 20 and 30 amp electric hookups. During the warm season, drinking water is available, but there are no showers or dish cleaning stations, and no water for RV tanks.
