Storms are common in the area, and the campground is close to the amphitheater where visitors can enjoy nightly programs. The stars are beautiful at night, and the campground is a great spot to enjoy the cool mornings and evenings.

Piñon Flats Campground is located inside Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. It is open from April through October and offers a unique camping experience with stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground has 88 sites, including tent-only sites, RV sites with full hookups, and group sites. There are also restrooms, showers, and a camp store available for campers.
