From The Campground
Avalanche Campground is a first-come, first-serve campground located adjacent to Avalanche Creek in the White River National Forest. The campground has 6 campsites and is located 13 miles south of Carbondale on Highway 133. Fishing is available in Avalanche Creek and in the Crystal River, which is 3 miles downstream. One of the major trailheads into the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness is located adjacent to the campground. Picnicking is also available. Proper food storage is required because of potential bear activity. The campground is heavily used and reservations are not available.
