. Chalk Creek is a perfect destination for die-hard campers looking to appreciate the beauty of Colorado during the cooler months. With limited facilities available, such as restrooms and showers, the camping experience is primitive and at your own risk. Enjoy classic mountain views, sleeping to the sound of running water, tall pines, and an awesome camp host. The sites are best suited for tent campers but will accommodate vans and small trailers. There are picnic tables, fire rings/grills, trash, pit toilets, and handpumps for water. Before Memorial Day, sites may be first-come-first-serve and hosts and water may not be available. During peak season dates, some sites can be reserved. Dont miss heading up the road to tour the ghost town of St Elmo for a glimpse into hard scrabble mountain life. The base of the canyon has a couple of hot springs resorts with swimming pools and hotel rooms. Stay safe, travel happy, and enjoy the incredible mountain views with a beautiful stream running quickly down hill.
