GenieSummary

Hecla Junction Campground is a great, quiet park off the highway and right next to the Arkansas River. The campground is secluded, located at the end of a well maintained county gravel road 2 1/2 miles off the main highway. The sites are nicely laid out with big boulders and pea gravel for setting up a tent on. The price is approximately $28/day with the reservation fee calculated into a three night stop. The campground is completely dry, with no water, electricity, or trash service, but there are clean pit toilets. Verizon cell service is available, but hotspot use is a bit spotty (even with a signal booster). Fishing in the Arkansas River is great in the early mornings and late afternoon. Salida is 12 miles to the south and offers more civilized activities like the Eddyline Brewery in Buena Vista and the Boathouse along the river. Be sure to check out SmallHomeBigYard.com for more information.

From The Campground

Railroad Bridge Campground offers 14 basic campsites, each with a tent pad, fire grill, and table. The campground has two vault toilets and two changing areas. It is located adjacent to the Browns Canyon National Monument trailhead and is one of the most popular campground sites, especially for private boaters. Several trails in the area lead into the backcountry.
