This campground is located in a secluded area 15 miles northwest of Walden, Colorado. The road to the campground is narrow and poorly maintained, and some have compared it to the western version of Deliverance. The sites are weed ridden and the clay sticks to your shoes in thick clumps. The bathrooms are small, single units and smelly. There is no WiFi or cell service, but the town of Walden has a grocery store, a great meat market, and a couple of good cafes. The campground store is well stocked with nearly everything you need. The cabin is clean and in good condition. The proprietor is friendly and helpful. The lake shore is a great spot for boon docking if you are equipped for it. There is a forest fire to the north, about 6 miles away, but it does not affect the campground. The nearest real grocery store is 70 miles away in either Steamboat Springs or Laramie.

Zirkel Wilderness offer outstanding angling opportunities. Lake John Resort is only a short distance from the Delaney Butte Lakes, Big Creek Lake, Cowdrey Lake, the Grizzly Helena Trail and the many alpine lakes of Mt. Zirkel Wilderness. Public lands offer: hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, ATV & UTV trails, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and North Sand Hills Recreation Area.
