However, the campers are very friendly, and there is a nice boat ramp and dock for fishing. The location is great, with stores nearby and a short drive to the beach in Destin. Off-season traffic is a lot better than spring or summer, but cooler weather may limit some outdoor activities. All in all, the Destin Army Infantry Center Recreation Area is a great place to spend a relaxing vacation.

Destin Army Recreation Area is a gated resort in the heart of Old Destin, near the Harbor Walk Village, just 220 miles south of Fort Moore, between Pensacola and Panama City. The resort spans 15 acres along the Choctawhatchee Bay, minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. The resort offers a fishing pier, conference facility, swimming pool and splash park, fitness facilities and recreation equipment, internet services, marina, boat rentals, and beach access. The resort is open to Purple Heart recipients, former prisoners of war, all veterans with service-connected disabilities, and individual approved and designated as the primary family caregivers of eligible veterans enrolled under the Department of Veterans Affairs Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers.
