What others are saying about this campground
The campground on St George Island is the perfect getaway for nature lovers, beachgoers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Located on a strip of land between the Bay of Apalachicola and the Gulf of Mexico, the campground is surrounded by pristine beaches, dunes, and bay. The campground has 60 campsites, a playground, electricity, water hookups, and a dump station. It is located a short distance from the beach and is a great spot for bird or dolphin watching, fishing, sunbathing, beach walking, and night photography of the stars. The campground is well maintained, with clean bathhouses and restrooms, and friendly staff. The sites are fairly small but offer plenty of privacy, and are backed up to the scrub grass and pine forest. There is also a primitive campsite option located down a short trail (1/2 mile) which is great for those looking for a more secluded experience. The Audubon society works closely with the park to preserve its fine feathered inhabitants, making it a great place for wildlife watching. The park is also buffered well from the wind, and the sand is solid and white with amazing shells. Mosquitos and bugs can be plentiful in the summer, so be sure to bring bug spray and fans. There are also great restaurants and shops in nearby Appalachicola, and a lighthouse you can climb. St George Island State Park is the perfect spot to relax, explore, and enjoy the outdoors.

From The Campground

Stretching 20 miles into the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, St. Joseph Peninsula is a true wildlife haven. Its powdery beaches and bayside salt marshes are nesting grounds for sea turtles, shore birds and the endangered St. Andrews beach mouse.
