Curry Hammock State Park is a beautiful campground located in the Florida Keys. With 28 sites, the campground is small but offers plenty of amenities. Guests can enjoy walking trails, a beach, and multiple water sport opportunities. There is also excellent cell phone data coverage (mobile WiFi) and lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. The beach is covered in seagrass, so not great for sand, but the snorkeling is really good and you dont need a boat. There is a day use area with picnic pavilions, bathroom and kayak rentals plus a playground. There is a small park with a beach area within walking distance and kayak rentals are available. There are iguanas everywhere and will come around the campsite, but they wont come close enough to touch. The sites are large and very well maintained, with gravel pads, water, electric, and 50amp. There is also a boat ramp with picnic tables, pavilion etc. There is no sewer hookup, but there is a dump station. There is no TV signal on a roof top antenna, but there is no WiFi either. The nearby beach is small and subscribes to conservation principles which keep detritis on the sand. There is a Hawk Watchers that totally take over the bath house in September and October. There are composting toilets which are very clean and do not smell. There is no coin laundry at the bath house like most other state parks. The campground host patrols the park like a constable trying to catch campers violating (his so called) rules. There are no shade trees in sight, but there is a constant ocean breeze that blows. Overall, Curry Hammock State Park is a gem of a park, very well maintained and offers plenty of amenities.
From The Campground
Curry Hammock State Park is the largest undeveloped parcel of land between Key Largo and Big Pine Key. The park protects large areas of mangrove swamp, rockland hammocks and seagrass beds essential to the Florida Keys ecosystem. On calm days, paddlers come and go finding their own quiet slice of paradise, and on windy, wild days, the park bubbles with the activity and excitement of kiteboarders. The park provides vital habitat for many local and migrating species and hosts record numbers of peregrine falcons every fall. Striking in its seclusion along a stretch of the Keys known for development, this untarnished sanctuary will entice even the most seasoned travelers.
