Pelican Roost is a great place to stay and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The sites are mostly pull-throughs with full hookups, concrete pads, and a few waterfront sites with views of the St. Johns River and the ships that come in and out. The campground also offers WiFi, laundry facilities, and a day room. The campground is located on the Mayport Naval Station, so you will need proper military ID to access the base. It is a no-frills campground, but it is a great place to rest and enjoy the Jacksonville area. The sites are level, making set up quick and easy, and there are no fire pits or picnic tables in the tent area. The campground is mainly occupied by long-term RVers, but there are a few sites available for short-term stays. The WiFi works great, but you do need to create an account to log-in. There is a ship repair facility and dock near the park, so you will hear some noise from this area (even at night). Navy Getaways RV Parks at Naval Station Mayport offers two picturesque RV parks, Pelican Roost and Osprey Cove, which are in close proximity to a variety of activities both on and off the installation. Pelican Roost RV Park is a beautiful setting for short-term stays, overlooking the mouth of the St. Johns River. Osprey Cove RV Park is tucked away behind base housing and nestled among majestic live oak trees, and welcomes recreational vehicles with 47 full-service sites (50 amp only). Both RV parks are smoke-free in all public areas. Navy Getaways also offers tent camping at Pelican Roost and cottage rentals at Osprey Cove. Customers pay less per night than competitors, and one fee covers all amenities including laundry, WiFi, cable TV, ice, and access to the park clubhouse.
