What others are saying about this campground
Fort Desoto Campground is the perfect getaway for a long weekend or quick escape. Located close to the breweries in the art district of St. Pete, Florida, the campground offers a variety of amenities, including clean restrooms and a pavilion for family reunions. There are miles of white sugar sand beaches with beautiful views, and the old Spanish American Era fort is free to explore. The campground also offers a dog park with an adjacent stretch of white sand beach for canines, as well as a camp store with basic items, a museum, pier, and rentals for kayaks, canoes, and windsurfing. There are also plenty of shade trees and fishing piers, and the campground is big rig friendly. However, there are low hanging limbs, hard to get into sites, and lots of pot holes. In addition, there is a red tide, which has caused a bad film on the bank and a smell of dead fish. Despite these issues, the campground is generally quiet and peaceful, and is great for families with young children. Visitors can also enjoy watching the sunset from their campsite, and there are plenty of opportunities for photography.
