What others are saying about this campground
St. George Island State Park is a beautiful and secluded campground located on the eastern end of a barrier island. It is surrounded by lush pine trees, natural dunes, and hardwoods, with each campsite screened for privacy. The park features nine miles of undeveloped beaches and dunes, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Apalachicola Bay on the other. There are plenty of easy access points with parking lots and picnic shelters, as well as hiking trails from the campground leading to the bay side of the island and to the primitive camping area. The campground is equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and two 4x4 posts with hooks to attach your clothes line. The camp hosts and maintenance staff are friendly and helpful, and the store offers a fairly good selection of basic foods, as well as beer and wine. Unfortunately, there are no sewer hook ups, no internet, cable TV, or cell phone coverage. The closest town is about 7 miles away, and services are pretty limited, so plan ahead or go back across the bridge to find gas and groceries. Mosquitos can be a problem, so be sure to come well stocked with insect repellent. If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet getaway, with beautiful beaches and plenty of wildlife, St. George Island State Park is the perfect spot.
