What others are saying
Sawnee Campground is a Corps of Engineers (COE) campground located on the southern end of Lake Lanier, close to Atlanta and its northern suburbs. It is a smaller campground with nicely spaced sites, some of which have lake views and some of which border the highway. The nightly rate is around $30, but visitors can get 1/2 price with an America the Beautiful National Park Pass. The campground has paved parking pads, but they are narrow and some are not level. There is no sewer hookup, but there is a dump station with a cleanup hose, though it is too narrow for larger 5th wheels. Bathhouses are clean and staff is very friendly. The campground has a picnic area with a grill, steel circle fire ring, and a lantern poll, as well as a playground for kids. The only downside is that the electricity is on the weak side, so running a fridge on shore power can cause the voltage to dip dangerously low. The campground closes at 10:30 pm and opens at 7:30 am, so visitors should be aware if they are passing through town early in the morning.
