What others are saying about this campground
Stephen C. Foster State Park is a great destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. Located in the heart of the Okefenokee Swamp, the park offers a variety of activities for visitors, including boat tours to see hundreds of alligators, stargazing events, and hiking and paddling trails with breathtaking scenery and lots of wildlife. The campground is wooded and offers plenty of space between campsites, with some pull-through sites suitable for larger RVs. There are also cottages, a playground for kids, a convenience store, and canoe, kayak, and motorboat rentals. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with alligators, turtles, raccoons, black bears, deer, ibis, herons, wood storks, woodpeckers, and more. The park is dark-sky certified, making it perfect for stargazing, and the Trembling Earth Nature Trail offers a 5-mile self-guided hike. Campers should be aware that gates are locked at night, there is no internet in the campground, and the nearest town is 17 miles away. Charcoal fires are allowed, but wood is currently banned due to drought and recent wildfires.

From The Campground

Stephen C. Foster State Park is a great place to view the night sky. The park offers night programs throughout the year. The Okefenokee’s isolation gives you a great opportunity to see a truly dark night sky, something that has become increasingly hard to find.
