What others are saying
This campground is perfect for nature lovers looking for a unique camping experience. Along a 7 mile loop, there are 6 primitive campsites, each with a fire pit, logs for sitting, and cleared out space for tents or hammocks. Along the loop, visitors can enjoy views from the rim of the canyon and two children’s playgrounds, two picnic pavilions and two restrooms. The visitor center offers location specific clothing, souvenirs and some snack items. Further down the loop, visitors can find a Methodist church from 1832 and a small pioneer cemetery. Hiking down into the shallow canyon offers a close-up view of the canyon’s pink, orange, red and purple hues. Pioneer Campsites 1&2 are located beyond the gated park and down a two track gravel drive. Each campsite offers a pit toilet, two picnic tables and a fire ring, but no electric or water. The park’s front gate is locked at 6:00 p.m., but a pavement sensor permits egress if needed. Campers should be sure to bring plenty of water as the park recommends not to try and filter water due to very fine sediment.
